Detroit Conference United Methodist Men raising money to fight hunger

• By Paul Thomas, Detroit Conference Director of Communications •

The Detroit Conference United Methodist Men are encouraging all men in the conference to join them in fighting hunger relief in March and April through the Meals for Millions program that is sponsored by the Society of St. Andrew.

From March 1-April 30, the Feinstein Foundation is granting $1 million in matching funds to selected groups that fight hunger, and the Society of St. Andrew is one of the groups that have been selected.

With the opportunity to have donations to the program doubled, James Walker, president of the conference United Methodist Men, is asking all men in the conference to contribute just $1.00 towards hunger relief between now and April 15

The Meals for Millions mission project of United Methodist Men began in 1989 as a fund raising mechanism for the Society of St. Andrew’s Potato and Produce Project.

Through this effort United Methodist Men have fed literally millions of people over the years.  In 1997, the focus of Meals for Millions was changed to provide funding for the Hunger Relief Advocate (HRA) Initiative. Meals for Millions is an Advance Special mission project of the United Methodist Church (#982225-8).
