Voters needed: Cass Community Social Services in running for up to $500,000 from Chase

Cass Community Social Services in Detroit will receive $25,000 for finishing in the Top 100 of the first round of the Chase Community Giving contest, but the service organization is gearing up for a run at a much bigger prize — $500,000.

From May 19-25 Detroit Conference leaders are urging people to cast their vote for Cass on Chase's Community Giving Facebook application.

Cass had 642 votes in the first round of the competition, good for 58th nationwide.

The Top 100 charities have now submitted a "Big Idea" to Chase — essentially videos, pictures and words describing how each would utilize $500,000.

Chase will select the recipient of that award, while the voting will determine another charity that will earn up to $250,000.

Cass Community Social Services is dedicated to making a profound difference in the lives of the diverse populations it serves by providing for basic needs, including affordable housing; promoting self-reliance, and encouraging community involvement and community improvement.

Each Facebook user has five votes they are able to cast during the duration of the contest.
